Do you find yourself surrounded by cold ridden people? or perhaps you have been doing your best to avoid that one co-worker with a hacking cold or cough. The dreaded door knob…or that commute guaranteed to be teeming with viruses. Blow away that phobia of catching a cold or worse yet…full blown flu, The Cheeky Panda has got you covered with these top tips to help steer away from colds and flu this season.

Wash your hands!

Moment of truth…be honest, how often do you actually wash your hand? Even those diligent hand washers are prone to slipping up every once in a while after a sneeze or a quick pee. Don’t worry it is not the end of the world, but here are some things you should know about what can happen if you don’t frequently wash your hands. As you may already know germs are everywhere, they come super charged with all sorts of illnesses. Luckily your immune system jumps in to take care of the majority of these issues, however some pesky ones slip through the cracks. Avoid these, make sure you wash your hands by running a lot of water over them,  this will dilute any unwelcome germs and send them straight down the drain. Alternatively keep a handy sanitiser at the ready. Hand sanitisers are super convenient, especially if you frequently forget to wash your hands or when you are on the go and feel the need for extra cleansing.

Watch those hands…

Ever find yourself randomly touching your nose or eyes? You may not yet realise how many germs have built a home here, so be more conscious of where your idle hands land. Public places are ones to watch out for, so many people have passed through where you are today and with that so many hands have groped their way through almost every surface. This is where it is essential to keep your hands to yourself, if you slip up and find yourself resting on that escalator grab a hand sanitiser to cover all your basis, be one step ahead of that cold or flu.

Stay healthy

Nowadays, more and more people are finding it hard to get enough sleep. When you are tired, your body lacks the energy required to ward off the nasties, so aim for an 8 hour sleep. Believe it or not sleep is the easy part, along with getting plenty of rest you need to maintain a healthy diet. This means eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, remember your 5 a day? Sounds easier said than done but introducing healthy foods into your diet is certainly much easier than fighting off the flu virus. Don’t just stop there though, add in some exercise especially if you are a desk worker. Regular workouts will not only improve your mood but they can enhance the function of your immune system.

Set aside bad habits

Despite all those warnings against smoking you have continued to pursue that ‘much needed cigarette’. Smokers here’s what you should know…smoking increases the risk of infections by decreasing your immune system. According to studies smoking destroys cilia, the little hairlike fibers inside your nose; making you more vulnerable to infections. Like with most things too much of a good thing spoils, when it comes to Netflix the word ‘moderation’ springs to mind. It has been scientifically proven that binge watching leads to tiredness and reduced sleep will weaken your immune system. Studies suggest that individuals lacking enough sleep are more exposed to the cold virus and once they have caught it the road to recovery is much longer.

Watch out for people with symptoms

Maintain some distance between you and people displaying symptoms such as sneezing or coughing. Some may feel that this goes without saying but staying away from strangers is easier compared to avoiding your loved ones. Stay away from anyone sick when possible, getting up close and personal with those already suffering from a cold or flu is just tempting fate! Keep an eye on those handshakes and hugs, you don’t know whether or not that person has sneezed into their hands and there’s nothing like a good hug to ensure an easier transfer of a cold. When possible avoid things like free open nibbles at the bar or free for all open dips, you never know the amounts of germs lurking in there.

If all else fails…

So you have unsuccessfully managed to avoid getting infected, don’t worry it’s not the end of the world. There are plenty of remedies that can help ease your symptoms natural or otherwise. Firstly watch your symptoms, if things escalate from simple sniffles to raging sickness don’t hesitate to contact your doctor, you may have a serious case of the flu! When struck with the cold or flu dehydration can occur so make sure you drink plenty of fluids, water is your new best friend, contact your doctor if you find yourself unable to keep fluids down. Make sure you get plenty of rest, stay at home and take care of yourself, this will not only speed up recovery but also prevent others from catching your virus. Lastly if you must sneeze, there is nothing better than handy bamboo facial tissues and pocket tissues!

Five Reasons To Be Eco Friendly

Nowadays, the term eco-friendly keeps popping up as being environmentally friendly becomes more and more crucial to society. This term goes beyond the simple act of just flicking off a light bulb as you leave the room or allocating rubbish to the correct trash bin. Eco-awareness extends to ‘living with intent, the intent to reduce harmful exposure to the environment by minimising the damage occurring through interactions.

The Cheeky Panda believes in practices that influence the way in which individuals, communities and businesses conduct themselves. When it comes to the environment, there are many reasons why we should all be eco-friendly. Here is just some of the few that reside in our top 5…

  • Survival of future generations

An eco-friendly was of life allows us to look after the planet. Taking responsibility and making smart decisions that ensure a better outcome for the environment will ensure the survival of future generations. Every action has a consequence and what goes out there always comes back in one shape or another. This is our world, we only have a single lifetime to make positive impactful changes before passing on the torch to the next generation.

  • Natural health benefits

Being eco-friendly not only cares for our environment but also has personal health benefits. A lot of the products on the market now have natural and eco qualities, which have a positive impact on our health and well being. The materials used in most eco-products are usually free from the harsh chemicals found in regular products and tend to be kinder to your skin. These health conscious products come in many forms and are now more accessible than ever before. Find out how natural bamboo tissues could contribute to your health.

  • Preserving nature’s wildlife

Humans are not the only species on this planet, our actions affect the health and way of life of thousands of creatures. Our society thrives off nature’s gifts, we have transformed key commodities such as trees into various life changing innovations such as toilet paper and books. Trees are being chopped down at an alarming rate, destroying animal habitats and even harming these vulnerable creatures. Opting for plant based alternatives essentially saves lives. Bamboo the world’s fastest growing plant is versatile and grows in abundance, luckily many innovative products such as The Cheeky Panda have influenced a reduction in deforestation.

  • Eco-innovation trend explosion

We live in an age filled with innovation and tech savvy businesses constantly on the look out for the next best thing. Many of these innovations are sustainable which helps to pave the way towards a brighter future. As a society, we all have the power to lead by example and give much needed exposure to eco-friendly products. These products are essentially helping us secure tomorrow, they are created for the future and will no doubt influence our predecessors.

  • Business development

Business owners, being eco friendly nowadays will aid in securing those hard to reach market segments. Today’s consumer is more eco-conscious and tends to opt for ethical brands, so highlighting the sustainable features your products will generally help expand their overall market reach. Businesses that communicate positive eco ideals truly resonate with consumers, as they usually align themselves with ethical morals that in turn inspire loyalty and ease business development.

Bamboo is the Future

Did you know that Bamboo can be transformed into luxury tissue paper? While many of you may be familiar with Bamboo Socks, Pillows, Bedsheet and Underwear there is a new kid in town called The Cheeky Panda! It all stems from bamboo, the world’s fastest growing plant paving the way towards a more sustainable future…

Did you know that Bamboo can be transformed into luxury tissue paper? While many of you may be familiar with Bamboo Socks, Pillows, Bedsheet and Underwear there is a new kid in town called The Cheeky Panda! It all stems from bamboo, the world’s fastest growing plant paving the way towards a more sustainable future. This key ingredient eradicates deforestation and promotes good health, tree based products rely on slow growth using fertilisers and recycled tissue paper alternatives come choked full of harmful chemicals.

When you cut down a tree you are left with the root system that needs to be dug up before replanting. All that soil erosion and chemicals have a negative impact, while bamboo behaves like a grass when cut from the root it just grows back. No soil erosion, no fertilisers just natural organic bamboo. What you might not know is that bamboo is anti-microbial, that means it doesn’t collect bacteria and its healthier for people’s skin than traditional tree based tissue. Making smart choices about food and healthy living is the way to protect the planet and give the future generations a sustainable world.

Recycled tissue was the most environmentally friendly tissue on the market but what they don’t tell you is that in order to turn old newspapers and copier paper into toilet paper they have to use lots of de-inking agents and harsh chemicals which are harmful to both the environment and the skin. Tissue paper products might be at the bottom of the market (excuse the pun), but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored, it is every bit as important as food after all what goes in must come out.

The Cheeky Panda fairly new to the market but the founders Chris and Julie are extremely passionate about protecting the environment and leaving no carbon footprint. Every time someone buys some Cheeky Panda some of the money goes to protecting the Rainforest in Vietnam, through the World Land Trust they back a project to regenerate lost rainforest and stop animal snaring, how cool is that?

The Cheeky Panda range is 100% FSC certified with recycled packaging that biodegrades when exposed to oxygen. Check out the online reviews and grab yourself a pack, remember its more than just bums on seats, it’s about doing the right thing, using a comfortable organic tissue and making the planet a little more sustainable.

Wake Up And Smell The Plastic

Plastic is one of the biggest problems for the environment in the UK today. Studies reveal an estimation between 1.15 to 2.41 million tonnes of plastic entering oceans through rivers annually. Some of these top contributing rivers can be found in Asia, contributing up to 67% of all plastics flowing into the ocean from rivers around the world.

The last 70 years has seen a dramatic increase on demand for plastic. Shockingly around 300 million tons of plastic is being produced globally every year, half of this is being used for disposable items. 8 million tonnes of this plastic then ends up in our oceans every year, once there it is there to stay.

Plastic is favoured for use in a wide range of industry due to its durability. This is good for suppliers and end users but extremely bad for the environment. This durable material begins its slow breakdown into smaller pieces when exposed to sunlight or extremely warm temperature. Since the ocean is beyond freezing, this breakdown process takes that much longer, meanwhile more and more plastic continues to be discarded and ending up in the sea.
